MORE LIGHT WHERE YOU NEED IT

Where Could a Skylight Make a Difference?

Kitchens, dining areas and bathrooms are some of the most common places we install new skylights, but almost any dark area of the home can benefit from the right solution.

Living Areas & Other Dark Spaces

Living rooms, hallways and other darker areas can often benefit from additional daylight with the right skylight system and position.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT SKYLIGHT

The Right Skylight Starts With the Right Position

Before recommending a conventional skylight, we first look at the room, proposed position and roof space above it. Roof structure, existing solar panels, ducted air conditioning and other services can all influence what can be installed and where.

From there, we'll recommend a skylight system and size that suits the room, roof and amount of natural light you're looking for.

Tubular Skylights

Systems such as Solatube and Redcliffe Skylights use reflective tubing to carry natural light from the roof into the room below. They're a practical option for many kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and other darker areas.

VELUX Skylights

VELUX logo

VELUX skylights create a direct opening to the sky and are typically finished internally with a constructed plaster or timber shaft. They're well suited to areas where an architectural skylight and direct natural light are desired.

Illume

When a conventional skylight can't be positioned where you want it — for example because of roof structure, solar panels or services above the ceiling — Illume can provide another way to brighten the space without a traditional skylight shaft.

COMPLETE SKYLIGHT INSTALLATION

From the Roof to the Finished Ceiling

A new skylight involves more than simply fitting something to the roof. The roof opening, flashing, skylight system and internal ceiling connection all need to work together.

Topnotch Skylights coordinates the installation from the roof through to the interior of your home, so you don't have to work out which trades are needed or organise different stages yourself.

Roof Installation

Installation into tile, metal and other common residential roof profiles, with the appropriate flashing system for the skylight being installed.

Shaft or Tubing

Tubular skylight systems include the components needed to connect the roof to the ceiling below. VELUX installations can require a purpose-built internal shaft, which we coordinate as part of the job.

Internal Finish

The skylight is carried through to the ceiling below so the finished installation looks like it belongs in the room — not just on the roof.
